Stonehaven South Homepage
Stonehaven South is a proposed expansion of Stonehaven, potentially providing up to 1000 new dwellinghouses, a replacement for the current Dunnottar Primary School, providing community facilities also. In addition, the proposal includes 10 hectares of business land, a supermarket, potential for a hotel, leisure centre and other community facilities such as a health centre. The plan also includes playing fields, allotments, and the improved management and promotion of the coastal area for the long term. The plan below shows how Stonehaven has expanded in 3 distinct phases over the decades, and that the Stonehaven South area, ringed in red, is a logical 4th phase of growth.
The majority of the site is currently identified as countryside, but it is important to note that the business park area is identified in the current Aberdeenshire Local Plan as employment land, and indeed a detailed planning consent has been granted for the land, and recently works started on site.
To the North of the proposed expansion area, an existing housing scheme (currently being expanded further) at Braehead has been developed. The current Local Plan position is identified on the excerpt on the right.
The Stonehaven South proposals seek to rationalise these developments, and link them together to provide a genuine 'community' with a heart, permeability, connectivity and a distinct character.
